China wins two tickets for Athens Olympic mountain bike

China secured two tickets for the Athens Olympic Games in the mountain bike competitions, one each in the men's and women's cross country races as the Asian mountainbike championships concluded in Aomori, Japan on Sunday.

China secured two tickets for the Athens Olympic Games in the mountain bike competitions, one each in the men's and women's cross country races as the Asian mountainbike championships concluded in Aomori, Japan on Sunday.

Japan also took one berth as the winning country in the women'srace and top two countries in the men's race are eligible for the Olympic Games.

Chinese Ma Yanping defeated Japan's Hiroko Nambu to win the women's race, awarding a seat for China in the Olympics, covering the five laps on the 6.4-km course in two hours 27 minutes and 35.54 seconds. Nambu lagged behind by 1:08.44.

Gao Xiaoning was third in 2:29:44.41, followed by fellow Chinese Zhang Xinhua fourth in 2:31:05.10.

The men's 6.4kmx6 race was won by Shinobu Noguchi of Japan, whothus secured a berth in the Olympics with his winning time of 2:19:04.24, beating his compatriot Hiroki Irokawa by 1:55.92.

However, Chinese Shao Xiaojun also secured a place for China ashe finished third in 2:21:47.07.
