China wins all but men's singles in Japan Open

The Chinese paddlers won all the titles except the men's singles at the Japan Open table tennis championships which concluded in Kobe, Japan on Sunday.

The Chinese paddlers won all the titles except the men's singles at the Japan Open table tennis championships which concluded in Kobe, Japan on Sunday.

China's budding star Guo Yue, a 15-year-old left-hander, savored her first Pro Tour title, beating her compatriot Guo Yan to win the women's singles title 11-9, 11-7, 12-10 and 11-5.

The victory was a sweet revenge for Guo Yue as she was defeatedby Guo Yan at the Polish Open semi-finals last year and the China Open quarter-finals a week ago.

En route to her final, Guo Yue eliminated world champion Wang Nan of China in the quarter final and beat her doubles partner andAsian singles champion Niu Jianfeng in straight sets in the semifinal.

Guo Yue also became the double champions as she won the doublestitle with Niu two hours ago, beating compatriots Guo Yan and Li Nan 11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7 to add to their Korea Open victory two weeks ago.

The men's singles title was snatched by top-ranked Timo Boll ofGermany who scored his first win of the season, beating two-time Asian Games third-placer Oh Sang-Eun of South Korea 11-5, 8-11, 11-4, 6-11, 12-10 and 13-11.

It was his third Pro Tour title for Boll, following his victories at the Brazilian Open in 2001 and the Austrian Open lastyear.

China's Ma Lin who failed to win his third singles title in three weeks by losing to Oh Sang-Eun in the semi-finals, kept winning the doubles title for a third week.

Ma and Chen Qi, winners at the Korea and China Opens, edged past fellow Chinese Wang Liqin and Hao Shuai 11-9, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8, 8-11, 3-11 and 11-7 in the final.

It was Ma's fourth doubles title here, following his victories with Wang Tao in 1998, with Qin Zhijian in 1999 and with Wang Hao in 2001.
