A ceremony has been held in the Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), in east China's Shanghai Municipality, to mark the founding of a training base for simultaneous language interpretation.

Officials from the United Nations and the Chinese Ministry of Education attended the ceremony held here on Sunday.

The SISU invested more than 8 million yuan (about 964,000 US dollars) in building the center, which is equipped with advanced equipment and technology.

The base will be used for training highly-proficient interpreters in the English, French, German, Japanese and Russian languages.

The SISU will work in cooperation with international simultaneous interpretation services, including interpretation departments of the UN Geneva Office and the European Union.
