Japan's Cabinet resigned en masse Monday and Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is scheduled to announce the lineup of a new cabinet later the day.

As a formality, all 17 ministers submitted during a special cabinet meeting Monday morning their letters of resignation to Koizumi, who was re-elected Saturday to a three-year term as head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

Koizumi reportedly would replace Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi. Whether Heizao Takenaka, the financial services minister and economic and fiscal policy minister, would retain his post remains unknown.
