Seven people killed in US helicopter crash

The seven people aboard a sightseeing helicopter that crashed in Grand Canyon, Arizona, on Saturday were all dead, authorities said Sunday.

The seven people aboard a sightseeing helicopter that crashed in Grand Canyon, Arizona, on Saturday were all dead, authorities said Sunday.

The France-made Aerospatiale helicopter, carrying a pilot and six passengers including at least four foreigners, had taken off from the Grand Canyon West Airport for the bottom of the canyon, Federal Aviation Administration operations officer Larri Frelow said.

The helicopter crashed after noon Saturday in rugged terrain, and burst into flames upon impact, a spokesman of the Mohave County Sheriff's Office said.

Two of the passengers were Japanese and at least two others were German, he said. He added that the pilot was also a Japanese,and the helicopter was owned by a Las Vegas-based company.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration were investigating the incident.
