Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat addressed a letter Monday to the Quartet committee expressing Palestinian commitments to the peace process and the implementation of the roadmap peace plan.

The letter, sent after Arafat met with representatives of the Quartet committee at his Ramallah headquarters Sunday night, was described by Palestinian state-run Wafa news agency as "important."

Members of the Quartet committee, comprising head of the European union, US secretary of state, UN secretary general and Russian foreign minister, are scheduled to convene on Sept. 26 in New York.

The letter also talked of the deteriorated security situation in the Palestinian territories, urging the Quartet committee to interfere to stop the Israeli military actions against the Palestinians.

"The Israeli army has turned the Palestinian towns and cities into cantons and prisons, exactly like what is happening in the town of Qalqilya," Arafat told reporters on Monday.

"Is there anybody can accept this?" he heckled.

Arafat revealed that a new Palestinian National Authority (PNA) cabinet would be formed by Prime Minister-designate Ahmed Qurei within the coming days.
