Death toll in India's Bihar floods mounts to 179

The death toll in the current spell of floods in Bihar state, north India, has mounted to 179, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI) Tuesday.

The death toll in the current spell of floods in Bihar state, north India, has mounted to 179, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI) Tuesday.

Officials were quoted as saying that floods in 24 districts of the state has damaged crops worth some 13 million US dollars.

The state relief and rehabilitation department reportedly continued to provide food grains and other essential items to the food-affected people with the help of army.

PTI said that major rivers, including Ganga, one of the country's biggest rivers, maintained a receding trend leading to an improvement in the situation in the state.
