The Communist Party of China (CPC) is experiencing a gratifying momentum of growth in its external relations, said Cai Wu, deputy head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee Thursday.

At a press conference held by the State Council Information Office, Cai said the CPC has interacted with various new and old political parties around the world in an active, steady and sustained manner since the start of the reform and opening-up process over two decades ago.

Cai said the CPC has established and maintained links, contactsand cooperation in diverse forms with 400-odd political parties and organizations in over 140 countries and regions.

The CPC has been expanding contacts with political parties in developed countries, including the left, center and right parties, and increasing exchanges and cooperation with the ruling parties of socialist countries, Cai said.

The CPC's links with newly-emerged political parties in some countries in transition are growing steadily, he added, and significant progress has also been made in the ties with international and regional party organizations.

A pattern of all-round, multi-channel, wide-scope and deep-level contacts and exchanges has taken shape in the CPC's externalrelations, Cai said.

Statistics show that since the adoption of the reform and opening-up policy over two decades ago, the International Department invited and received over 4,500 delegations and groups from foreign political parties, totaling 26,000 people, and organized and sent more than 1,500 delegations and groups overseas, involving nearly 10,000 people.

During these visits, acknowledged Cai, the CPC introduced and explained the CPC's domestic and foreign polices earnestly, candidly and in a practical and realistic approach, demonstrating the Party's new image of dedication for peace, development and progress.

According to Cai, by actively engaging in the CPC's external work, the central and local CPC leaders have been directly or indirectly acquainted with in-depth changes taking place in the world's political, economic, cultural, scientific and technological areas, exposing themselves increasingly to the diversity of the world.

They have also learned of the ideas of foreign parties in administering their respective countries and parties, and in this way improved their global vision, the deputy head added.

In recent years, the International Department of the CPC Central Committee has received about 200 delegations and sends overseas approximately 100 groups annually. On average, China welcomes a foreign group and sends a delegation out every day.

The CPC's external work has indeed become an important window through which the Party observes, understands and reaches out to the world, Cai said.
