To commend overseas Chinese upon their contributions to the Chinese economy, China issued honor medals and certificates to 100 outstanding overseas Chinese-funded enterprises Monday in Beijing.

At the awarding meeting held at the Great Hall of the People, State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan enumerated contributions made by overseas Chinese, including job creation, introduction of advanced management expertise and technology and advancing China's international trade and cooperation.

He said overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao were the first batch of investors in China since it adopted the reform and opening up policy. At present, enterprises funded by overseas Chinese account for more than 70 percent of the total number of overseas-funded enterprises in China and more than 60 percent of the total actual overseas investment in China.

Tang said the 21st century will usher in significant rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and China will participate in international competition and cooperation on a larger scale and a higher level in the new era.

He welcomed overseas Chinese and compatriots of Hong Kong and Macao to continue cooperation and exchanges with China's mainland in various ways and play the role of a bridge for deepening friendly cooperation between the Chinese people and other peoples in the world.

The 100 outstanding enterprises were selected out of 500 enterprises funded by overseas Chinese in China who agreed to participate in the selection, sponsored by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council.
