Accident involving 5 vehicles kills 4 in Uganda

Four people have been confirmed dead and six others injured following a tragic accident involving five vehicles on Sunday at the Jinja power dam, reported Radio Uganda.

Four people have been confirmed dead and six others injured following a tragic accident involving five vehicles on Sunday at the Jinja power dam, reported Radio Uganda.

The two vehicles that submerged in the waters of the Nile Riverare yet to be recovered.

The accident occurred around 1 p.m. (1000 GMT) at the Jinja power dam, some 80 km east of Kampala, capital of Uganda.

Officer in charge of traffic in the Jinja police station DanielZeba was quoted as saying that the dead and the injured were onlookers who rushed to the scene immediately after the accident.

Zeba said the police are working tooth and nail to rescue the two vehicles, one bus and one truck, now down the river, adding that the hope of rescuing anybody is dying out.

About 30 to 40 people were on the two vehicles.

According to police spokesman Asumani Mugyeni, a trailer lost control 100 meters toward the dam and rammed into a Fusso Truck and a Costa Bus, pushing them into the dam.
