The 2003 Beijing International Micro-Electronics Forum will be held from Oct. 16 to 18 in Beijing with the theme of the globalization of the micro-electronics industry and regional economy, an organizing official said.

Dong Zongguang, executive deputy director of Beijing's Semiconductor Industry Association, said the forum will focus on analyzing China's micro-electronics market, the supporting and service system for integrated circuit design technologies, and theconstruction of integrated circuit production lines.

A special session will be devoted to business opportunities brought about by the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the development of the micro-electronics industry in the Bohai Bay region, a booming economic powerhouse zone in north China including Beijing and Tianjin municipalities.

Dong said China's success in winning the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai have given precious opportunities for the country's micro-electronics industry to be integrated in to the world market. And the Bohai Bay region will become one of China's manufacturing centers featuring new and hi-tech industries like micro-electronics.

The Beijing International Micro-Electronics Forum is an annual event that had been first scheduled to be held in April this year but was delayed because of the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome.
