New director of accounting services appointed in HK

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said here Monday that Li Li Ka-lai will succeed Shum Man-to as Director of Accounting Services with effect from Oct. 7 when Shum proceeds on pre-retirement leave on the same day.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said here Monday that Li Li Ka-lai will succeed Shum Man-to as Director of Accounting Services with effect from Oct. 7 when Shum proceeds on pre-retirement leave on the same day.

Commenting on Li's appointment, the Secretary for the Civil Service Joseph W P Wong said that Li has proven administrative abilities, sound professional skills and solid experience in the work of the Treasury. Wong said he was confident that Li will lead the department to further enhance the provision of professional and quality service to the public.

Wong also thanked Shum for his 25 years of loyal and dedicated service, noting that under Shum's leadership, the Treasury has undergone major administrative and organizational reforms to achieve the best value for money in government expenditure while maintaining and improving the quality of public service.

Li, aged 49, first joined the government as an Accounting Officer II in December 1976. She was appointed as a Treasury Accountant in April 1980 and promoted to Deputy Director of Accounting Services in June 2001.
