Air passengers top two million during national holiday

About 2.18 million air passengers were recorded during China's week-long National Day holiday, a rise of 14.8 percent over last year, statistics of the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) show.

About 2.18 million air passengers were recorded during China's week-long National Day holiday, a rise of 14.8 percent over last year, statistics of the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) show.

The CAAC handled 19,969 flights during the "golden week" from Oct. 1 to 7, up 15.5 percent year-on-year, and the average occupancy rate was 68.3 percent, an increase of 1.52 percentage points over last year, sources with CAAC said.

Flights topped 3,000 for the first time on Oct. 1, the first day of the holiday, setting a new record, said the sources. Air passengers totaled 395,000 on October 1, exceeding last year's number by 36,000.

Beijing Capital International Airport was the busiest airport during the holiday, registering 62,600 air passengers on Sept. 30.
