The World Economic Forum (WEF) on Wednesday announced the program for its 12th East Asia Economic Summit in
Singapore
.
Some 800 business persons, senior government officials, and media experts on trade and economy from 32 countries are expected to participate the summit to be held from Oct. 12 to 14.
Key government leaders participating include Singapore's Prime Minister Goh Chok-Tong and Senior Minister Lee Kuan-Yew; King Abdullah II of
Jordan
; President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga of
Sri Lanka
; and Prime Minister Hun Sen of
Cambodia
.
To coincide with the summit, WEF released preliminary results of a pan-Asian survey of more than 7,900 people on attitudes toward globalization, open borders and expectations for the next generation of leaders.
The ten-country survey reveals that Asians are positive about globalization but not to the extent of opening borders to more intra-regional migration and immigration.
Many of the region's citizens are positive about the role of business in society but would like to see less corruption and greater support for education and other forms of social development.
WEF said the survey will be released in full to the Summit's participants.
