The Australian parliament Thursday marked the first anniversary of the Bali bombings, with leaders vowing to fight terrorism.

Prime Minster John Howard told the parliament that the bombings in Bali, Indonesia on Oct. 12 last year, which killed 202 people, including 88 Australians, "remind us that the war against terrorism must go on, how ever long that period may be."

"At the very least we owe it to those who died in Bali to never desist in our attempts, along with our allies, to destroy terrorism around the world," he said.

Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said there could be more victims in the war on terror.

"We are winning this war but it is not a war that we have yet won," he said, adding "The war will take time and it will take effort and we can expect further setbacks."

Opposition Leader Simon Crean said it is unlikely a day goes by when Australians as a nation do not think about the Bali bombings.
