Chinese, Macedonian leaders exchange greetings on anniversary of ties

Chinese and Macedonian leaders exchanged congratulatory messages on Sunday to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Chinese and Macedonian leaders exchanged congratulatory messages on Sunday to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In a message to Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski, Chinese President Hu Jintao said the establishment of full diplomatic relations between China and Macedonia 10 years ago turned a new chapter in the friendly exchanges between the two countries and peoples, and now the bilateral ties have embarked on a track of sound development.

"Facts have proved that maintaining and developing a friendly cooperative relationship between China and Macedonia serve the fundamental interests of both countries and peoples," Hu said.

China stands ready to work closely with Macedonia to deepen themutual understanding, mutual trust and friendship between the two sides, expand the mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote a sound, sustained, steady and all-round development of the relations between the two countries, Hu said.

Trajkovski said in his message that the present intensity of bilateral contacts on the highest state and government level is exceptionally important in promoting the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries. Trajkovski also reiterated Macedonia's support for the one-China policy.

Macedonian Parliament Speaker Nikola Popovski and Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), exchanged messages to mark the occasion.

Macedonian Prime Minister Branko Crvenkovski and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao also sent congratulatory messages to each otheron the same day.
