After Ma Lin taking the men's singles title at the ITTF Men's World Cup, Chinese men'shead coach Liu Guoliang said Sunday in Jiangyin that they found the rhythm of the 11-point system.

It is the first singles title for China, a power-house of the sport, in a major international event since the ITTF, world governing body, introduced the three-step reform of using big ball,11-point system and no-hide service starting from 2000.

Liu, former world and Olympic Games champion, said, "Three Chinese entered the quarterfinals and Ma crowned in the final at the World Cup. It shows that we are still among the bests and we are able to overcome challenges."

China was away from the champion podium in the World Cup and Pro Tour Finals last year and World Championships in Paris, France,in last May. However, Ma swept five titles at the Korean Open, China Open and Japan in singles and doubles in September.

"We were uncomfortable with the new system because we were slowstarters and prefer more rallies before. But now I can say that our players became more aggressive and determined."

It is also the first big victory for Liu, who turned a nationalcoach after quit playing last year and became the youngest men's head coach in this June at the age of 27.

"It is an important victory for me. It boosts my confidence tolead our players to fight for a good result at the Team World Championships and Athens Olympic Games."

"Since the new system is no longer obstacles for us, we plan toinvent more advanced techniques on the table. The innovation is the key factor for Chinese players forever," Liu said.
