Pakistan Tuesday test-fired a medium-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile, which is the third missile test in less than two weeks, the military announced.

"The indigenously developed Hatf-IV, also known as Shaheen-1, is capable of reaching targets up to 700 kilometers and can carry conventional and unconventional warheads," said a press release issued by the armed forces' Inter-Service Public Office.

However, it did not mention where the test was made.

Tuesday's test-fire, said the military, is part of the ongoing series of tests of Pakistan's indigenous missile system and all technical parameters required to be tested were successfully validated.

President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali congratulated the scientists and engineers involved in the development of the missile system on their success.

Tuesday's test also wrapped up the series of planned tests, which started on Oct. 3 and longer range version of the Hatf series will be tested in the future as soon as technical parameters are validated, said the military.

It added "the tests reflect Pakistan's resolve and determination to continue to consolidate its minimum deterrence needs and national security."
