China, Australia hold seventh defense, strategic talks

Xiong Guangkai, deputy chief of general staff of the People's Liberation Army of China, and Russ Shalders, vice-chief of the Australian Defense Force, held the seventh defense and strategic talks Wednesday in Beijing.

Xiong Guangkai, deputy chief of general staff of the People's Liberation Army of China, and Russ Shalders, vice-chief of the Australian Defense Force, held the seventh defense and strategic talks Wednesday.

Xiong said the regular talks held between China and Australia enabled the two sides to exchange views and enhance bilateral relations.

Shalders congratulated China on successfully launching the Shenzhou-5 manned spacecraft.

The two sides exchanged views on international issues, regional security and bilateral relations and found common ground in many fields.

China and Australia began their defense and strategic talks in 1997.
