The European Union (EU) Leaders meeting on Thursday in Brussels are expected to ask for a list of projects to be drawn up which will boost the 15-nation bloc's sluggish economic growth.
Meeting for their annual autumn summit, the EU leaders are expected to ask the EU executive European Commission (EC) to draw up a list of projects which can be implemented as early as December 2003.
The EU member states will begin negotiations after this summit as to which "projects of true European interest" will be included in this list -- known as the "quick start program," according to an EC official.
EU heads of state will then rubber stamp the selected projects at the December summit in Brussels and work will begin immediately.
The projects will not just be transport-related, but will include trans-European communications networks, and research and development projects.
