Two US military fighters crashed in the Atlantic Ocean on a training exercise on Wednesday morning, and both pilots were rescued in good condition, a Marine spokesman said.

The single-seat F/A-18A jets were over the Atlantic about 100 km off the Georgia-South Carolina coast when something went wrong, said Capt. Don Caetano, spokesman for the Beaufort Marine Corps Air Station in South Carolina, where the planes were based.

It was not clear whether the two fighters, each valued at about35 million US dollars, clipped wings in the air, and an investigation was under way, he said.

The pilots, who ejected after they decided to ditch the aircraft, were rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter and later transported to a Navy hospital, and both were in good condition, he said.
