Int'l center set up for materials technology promotion

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) set up Sunday an international center in Beijing for promoting new technologies of materials.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) set up Sunday an international center in Beijing for promoting new technologies of materials.

The International Center for Materials Technology Promotion, also supported by China's Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Commerce, is expected to help developing countries improve their research of development on materials.

Chinese enterprises should wisely use the international networkconstructed by the center to obtain more advanced materials technologies and sell more products to global markets, Shi Dinghuan, a senior official with the Ministry of Science and Technology, said at the inauguration ceremony for the center.

Yao Yan, head of the center, said the center will build a database, covering technologies with market potentials, for Chinese enterprises. Another job is to study global needs for certain technologies or products.

The center has invited experts to analyze markets in Africa andSouth America. Cooperation between China and some other Asian countries, such as Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Pakistan and Afghanistan, is also under way, Yao said.
