Lei Donghui drove a home run to give China a 5-0 win over Russia at the second round of the World Women's Junior Softball Championship in Nanjing Saturday.

Chinese Wei Dongmei conceded a run in the third inning after two non-scoring innings. Her teammate Sun Guixia added a two-run shot in the following inning to bring China to a 2-0 lead.

China improved to 4-0 after Wei and Cao Fangfang scored respectively in the fifth inning. Lei finished the whole match in the sixth innings as she drilled a home run for China to seal the 5-0 victory over Russia.

Chinese head coach Liu Yaming was happy after the match. "We did a great job today," he said. "The players are excellent both in attacking and defense. The real competition will begin from this match as we will strive for reaching the top three."

After the victory, China entered the third round and Russia was eliminated from the tournament. But Russia's head coach Ivan Samtchouk didn't feel disappointed.

"China is a strong team, I am satisfied with our players' performance. We will stay here till the end of the tournament to learn from those strong teams. I wish China good luck in the following games," she said.

China will face Canada, who lost to Japan 6-2 on Saturday. Liu said China had prepared to beat any opponents. "We have prepared for a long time to win the match. I think we can win the following games to advance into the top three," said Liu.

In other matches on Saturday, Chinese Taipei beat New Zealand 3-1 and the United States defeated Australia 4-0.
