China's exports to Russia through Manzhouli, China's largest land port in the northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, topped 57.8 million US dollars during the first three quarters of the year, four times the figure of the same period in 2002.

China's exports to Russia through Manzhouli, China's largest land port in the northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, topped 57.8 million US dollars during the first three quarters of the year, four times the figure of the same period in 2002.

Exports of light industry products and textiles reported the largest rise of 624 percent to reach 32.5 million dollars, accounting for 57.6 percent of the total volume. Exports of building materials, machinery, electronic products and other traditional items continued to rise steadily.

The volume of vegetable and fruit exports also went up by 200 percent during the nine month period. In addition to carrots, onions and apples, the major exports in the port, some more perishable items like grapes and peaches were added for the first time to the export mix during the period.

To cope with the new exports, the customs office in Manzhouli introduced up-to-date examining facilities, greatly shortening thesurveillance time and increasing efficiency.
