China is ready to, along with the United States, continue to push forward the constructive and cooperative relationship, said Zhang Qiyue, spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry Tuesday.

She told a regular press conference that Chinese President Hu Jintao has held sound talks with his American counterpart George W. Bush during the ongoing Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting.

Hu said that Sino-US relations have maintained a good momentum of development and he is satisfied with it. He also hoped that the United States could promote the relations to a strategic height.

According to the spokeswoman, the frequent visits by some US senior officials recently also proves the good momentum for the development of the bilateral ties.

She said that US Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson, San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, and former US Secretary of State Warren Christopher visited China recently.

On the Taiwan issue, Zhang said, the US side had reiterated the commitment to the three Sino-US joint communiques, and vowed not to support "Taiwan's Independence". President Bush also reaffirmed this stance during the APEC meeting, she added.

The spokeswoman said China hopes the United States would follow its commitments, seriously handle the Taiwan issue so as to safeguard peace and stability of the Taiwan straits and facilitate healthy and stable Sino-US relations.

China hopes parties concerned continue six-party talks
China has a very clear stance on solving the Korean nuclear issue through peaceful means, and hopes the parties concerned make positive efforts for the continuation of the six-party talks, said Zhang.

Zhang said Chinese President Hu Jintao and US President George.W. Bush discussed the Korean nuclear issue during their meeting Sunday in Bangkok, Thailand.

She said both of the two leaders stressed that the six-party talks on the Korean nuclear issue are an important step towards the peaceful solution of the Korean nuclear issue, and the parties concerned should carry on such important talks.

Zhang said that a very important point in the process of solving the Korean nuclear issue is to solve the security concern of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Parties concerned should hold discussions on the approach and means of solving the DPRK's security concern within the framework of six-party talks, and find out an acceptable way, she said.

The first round of talks was held in Beijing in August with the participation of Russia, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the United States, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea.

China remains developing country
China remains a developing country, despite the successful launch of Shenzhou-V spacecraft, said the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman.

She made the remark in response to questions on whether the successful launch of a manned spacecraft means that China is no longer on the list of developing countries, and has no need for aid from developed nations.

Any developing country faces challenges for developing high-technology, she said, and the achievements in a certain field do not necessarily mean that the country is not on the list of developing countries.

China is currently concentrating its energy and efforts to build a relatively affluent society in an all-round way, the spokeswoman said.
