Special report from Pacific Islands Forum

A special Cocktail Evening to introduce the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Tonga was held at the Hilton Hotel by the Pacific Islands Forum Trade Office on 18th September 2003.

A special Cocktail Evening to introduce the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Tonga was held at the Hilton Hotel by the Pacific Islands Forum Trade Office on 18th September 2003.

The concerned Government sections and enterprises, namely the Ministry of Foreign Affairs P.R.C., The Ministry of Commerce P.R.C, Capital Enterprises Club, China Huawen Enterprises Development Corp. of People's Daily were invited to attend, as well as representatives of the Australian and New Zealand Embassies, Consular and Embassy representatives from other Pacific countries in China.

Mr. Rohan Ellis, the trade representative of the Pacific Islands Forum Trade Office welcomed and introduced the Hon. Charlotte Lupepau'u Fusitu'a, Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Tonga to give a presentation on business opportunities in Tonga. As mentioned in her speech, the Tongan Honorary Consul has been devoting herself, since diplomatic relations were established, to the promotion of co-operation on international trade and economic opportunities with China. An example of these include cooperation by Tonga with a Chinese satellite communication company for the launch of three satellites and the Project of the Upgrading and Expansion of the International Dateline Hotel by Chinese enterprise. Other joint ventures regarding business, agriculture and fisheries are also pending. These are great testimonies to the friendly cooperation between China and Tonga.

Lastly, the Honorary Consul expressed that she was grateful for the achievements in the area of business cooperation between the two countries and would do her best to further this development and cooperation in every field with China.
