After its entry into the International Organization of Employers (IOE), the China Enterprise Confederation (CEC) will play a greater role in IOE and the labor field, so as to further promote the exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and foreign enterprises, said a Chinese official.

Chen Jinhua, president of CEC and China Enterprise Directors Association (CEDA), made the remark at the first China Employers' Forum held here Thursday. Chen said CEC had officially become a member of IOE in June 2003, and it is China's sole representative in IOE. It not only marks a new development phase of IOE-CEC relations, but also symbolizes CEC will shoulder greater responsibility in international affairs, he said.

Huang Shuhe, vice-director of the Commission for Supervision and Management of State-owned Properties under the State Council, said CEC has done a lot of exploration work in the development of enterprises and associations. Under the present circumstances, he said, CEC faces a new task of promoting the establishment of an effective internal supervision mechanism within enterprises.

IOE's Vice-Chairman Tabani told the forum he hoped that CEC will further enhance friendly relations with IOE and play a more positive role in the international labor field.

Participants of the forum carried out wide discussions on hot topics, such as how to safeguard entrepreneurs' rights and the ways to react to anti-dumping.

IOE was founded in 1920 to represent the interests of enterprises in the fields of labor and social policies. At present it is composed of 136 organizations of employers from 132 countries in the world.
