ARATS leader mourns death of Madame Chiang Kai-shek

Wang Daohan, president of the Association for Relations Across Taiwan Straits (ARATS), on Saturday sent a letter of condolence to the relatives of Madame Chiang Kai-shek (1897-2003) to mourn her death.

Wang Daohan, president of the Association for Relations Across Taiwan Straits (ARATS), on Saturday sent a letter of condolence to the relatives of Madame Chiang Kai-shek (1897-2003) to mourn her death.

Wang said in the letter that Madame Chiang, also known as Soong Mei-ling, had experienced many great events during her lifetime and had been dedicated to the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression more than half a century ago.

In her old age, Madame Chiang also showed concern over relations between both sides of the Taiwan Straits and wished for reunification of the motherland and prosperity of the Chinese nation.

Wang said he was distressed to learn of the death of Madame Chiang and extended sincere sympathy to her relatives.
