Wang Chun, former vice secretary-general of the Jilin Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), has been expelled from the Party and discharged from public employment after being convicted of receiving bribes.

According to the provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, Wang and his wife, Wu Shumei, received an immense amount of money when he was mayor of Baishan City and Party Secretary of the city between 1996 and 2002.

Wang once promoted Jiang Huicong to director of the city's landadministrative bureau after receiving more than 800,000 yuan (about 96,385 US dollars) from Jiang.

He also took advantage of his power to help private enterprises who bribed him, and often received gifts of money when major holidays came.

In December 2002, the provincial Committee of Discipline Inspection and the provincial People's Procuratorate began to investigate Wang.

In March 2003, he was arrested and charged with bribery.
