General manager executed for embezzling public funds in Chongqing

Hu Qineng from southwest China's Sichuan Province who was found guilty of embezzling 11.91 million yuan (about 1.44 million US dollars) of public funds was executed on Tuesday by lethal injection, said local sources.

Hu used to be general manager of Chongqing Municipal Corporation for Agricultural Means of Production. During his tenure, Hu repeatedly resold quotas for imported chemical fertilizers or imported chemical fertilizers to other institutionsbetween October 1996 to October 1999, and pocketed all 11.91 million yuan (about 1.44 million US dollars) in profit that rightfully belonged to the corporation, the court said.

When his case was exposed, authorities retrieved only 8.7 million yuan (about 1.05 million US dollars) of the embezzled money.

Hu was sentenced to death by the Intermediate People's Court and the Higher People's Court of Chongqing Municipality. His death penalty was upheld by the Supreme People's Court of China.
