Two thousand tents arrive in Gansu's quake-torn areas

At 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, 2,000 cotton-padded tents allocated by the Ministry of Civil Affairs arrived in the quake-hit Zhangye City of northwest China's Gansu Province.

At 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, 2,000 cotton-padded tents allocated by the Ministry of Civil Affairs arrived in the quake-hit Zhangye City of northwest China's Gansu Province.

This is the largest batch of relief goods that Zhangye has received so far, said Liu Jianying, an official of Zhangye City, who is in charge of relief goods distribution.

These tents would be soon sent to the quake-stricken areas and more than 1,500 soldiers would go to help local residents set up the tents, said Liu.

A total of 3,504 tents were sent to Minle and Shandan Counties, the most seriously-hit areas in the strong tremors last Saturday. But the number is far less than that of the need, which is at least 10,000, said Liu.

Liu called for more donations from the whole society to help local residents pass though the coming winter safely.
