Russian prosecutors winded up Friday the investigation into the criminal case against an oil tycoon's subordinate, who was charged of tax evasion.

Vasily Shakhnovsky is a shareholder of Russia's largest oil firm Yukos and a key associate of Yukos chief execute Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who is undergoing pretrial detention due to fraud, large-scale tax evasion and five other charges.

A spokesman with the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said that Shakhnovsky had been informed that the investigation was finished and was studying the case records.

The prosecutors on Oct. 17 filed charges against Shakhnovsky with personal tax evasion of 29 million rubles (nearly 970,000 US dollars) in 1998-2000.

Shakhnovsky, the head of Yukos' main subsidiary Yukos-Moscow, was elected by an autonomous district in Krasnoyarsk region as itsrepresentative to the Federation Council (upper house of parliament) Monday, under which he was due to be immune from criminal charges.

The prosecutor's office asked a local court to invalidate the election, saying that during the election "both federal and local laws were violated."

Yukos has been facing a controversial judicial campaign by prosecutors since July when core company shareholder, Platon Lebedev, was arrested on charges of theft of state property in a 1994 privatization deal.
