Oil pipe on fire in northern Iraq

A pipeline transferring refined oil to Iraq's capital caught fire on Sunday after sabotage, Qatar-basedal-Jazeera TV channel reported.

The big fire was seen raging near Samarra, 120 km north of Baghdad, in a footage aired by al-Jazeera.

The pan-Arab channel said the damaged pipe was a main conduit,which carried oil from the Baiji refinery, 200 km north of Baghdad,to the Daura power plant in the capital city.

It was the latest act of sabotage that attempted to disrupt theoil transfer to major Iraqi cities, especially Baghdad.

Incessant explosions and fires on oil pipes have also long cutthe export line from Iraq's northern oil field of Kirkuk to Turkey.Sunday's fire coincided with what has been rumored as a "day ofresistance" when so-called Baath Party Regional Command threatenedwith fresh anti-US attacks.

A total of 16 coalition soldiers were confirmed killed inmultiple attacks in and west of Baghdad on Sunday as guerillas shotdown a US helicopter and bombed an armored vehicle.
