Brazil seeks to increase agricultural exports to China

Brazilian Minister of Agriculture Roberto Rodrigues traveled to China on Monday in a bid to expand the export of Brazilian agricultural products to China.

Brazilian Minister of Agriculture Roberto Rodrigues traveled to China on Monday in a bid to expand the export of Brazilian agricultural products to China.

"The prospect of the growth of business opportunities between Brazil and China is promising. The Chinese market has a great potential of expansion for the Brazilian agrobusinesses," the minister was quoted by local media as saying on Monday.

"Our mission is aimed at establishing commercial bases between the two countries. We want to identify eventual purchasers, not only for soy, but for footwear, meat, fruit, beverages, fish and garments," he added.

Accompanied by 20 entrepreneurs, Rodrigues will participate in the seminars called "Overview on Brazil," to be held in Shanghai on Tuesday and in Beijing on Wednesday, where he will meet his Chinese counterpart, Du Qinglin.

On Thursday and Friday, he will attend another event in Beijingknown as "China Business Summit", organized by the World Economic Forum.

China is the largest importer of Brazilian agricultural products, and of Brazilian-grown soy in particular.

From January to September this year, the Brazilian agrobusinessexports to China grew by 84.5 percent, amounting to 1.82 billion US dollars.

The soy sales reached 1.37 billion dollars, accounting for 75 percent of the total exports to China.
