More than 50 VIPs to address economic conference in south China

The World Economic Development Declaration Conference (WEDDC) scheduled to open in Zhuhai Thursday will be addressed by 56 leading economists and senior officials, said an official with the organizing committee Wednesday.

The World Economic Development Declaration Conference (WEDDC) scheduled to open in Zhuhai Thursday will be addressed by 56 leading economists and senior officials, said an official with the organizing committee Wednesday.

Zhang Xiaoyu, secretary-general of the WEDDC Organizing Committee, said that Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Yi would be present at the conference Thursday.

China would issue its first declaration on global economic development. The document was jointly drafted by seven Nobel Prizelaureates and six renowned Chinese economists.

Meanwhile, 14 Chinese ministers will speak about China's economic growth, investment environment and development plans at the two-day conference.

The speakers will include Bob Hawke, former Australian Prime Minister, the special representative of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), Donald Tsang, representative of ChiefExecutive of Hong Kong SAR, Klaus Schwab, Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum and 15 officials from international organizations.

Six economists, including Noble Prize laureates Lawrence Klein and Robert Mundell, will attend the conference together with entrepreneurs from 37 countries and regions.
