The Chinese government values China-Lesotho friendship and is willing to work with Lesotho to enhance exchanges, understanding and cooperation for greater progress in bilateral cooperative relations, said Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Thursday.

Li said during talks with visiting Lesotho Foreign Minister Mohlabi Tsekoa that China-Lesotho ties have forged ahead smoothly since the resumption of diplomatic relations. Lesotho Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili's visit to China in 2001 injected new vitality to the development of bilateral relations.

Over the past two years, the two countries have carried out fruitful political and economic cooperation, and worked closely in international affairs.

Li expressed appreciation over the Lesotho government's adherence to the one-China policy and its stance of not having any official relations with Taiwan.

Tsekoa thanked China for its continuous assistance for Lesotho's social and economic construction, and reiterated Lesotho's one-China policy, expressing the belief that China would resolve the Taiwan issue under the policy of "one country, two systems."

Tsekoa said Lesotho attaches great importance to the upcoming ministerial meeting of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum scheduled to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, saying it would be important to enhance relations between China and African countriesand promote South-South cooperation.

The two ministers also signed a treaty on extradition between the two governments.
