World Economic Forum President Klaus Schwab said Saturday in Beijing that China plays an important role in regional economic development.

Schwab told the Foreign Affairs College Forum at Beijing's China Foreign Affairs College that every country should cooperate to build a global community to face the challenges of globalization.

"In China, which has been looking at its economic problems since 1979, some problems still exist at local or national level," he said.

Schwab came to Beijing at the invitation of China Foreign Affairs College after participating the Boao Forum for Asia, which held its annual conference in Hainan Province last week. He described the forum as a platform for interaction among Asian countries and the world.
