China names squad for Asian Gymnastics Championships

China announced its squad for this month's Asian Gymnastics Championships to be held in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong province.

China announced its squad for this month's Asian Gymnastics Championships to be held in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong province.

Olympic and world champion Li Xiaopeng, Yang Wei and Teng Haibin will miss the men's events, while Zhang Nan and Kang Xin will spearhead a full-strength women's team at the Asian Championships slated from Nov. 19-26.

"Li Xiaopeng, Yang Wei and Teng Haibin feel a little bit tired after the World Championships," Ye Zhennan, team leader of the the Chinese gymnastics team, told Xinhua on Saturday.

Li, Yang and Teng helped China successfully defend its men's team title at the World Championships in the United States in August.

"We've decided to give more opportunities to younger gymnasts," he added.

Gymnasts from 13 teams have so far confirmed their participation in the event, said organizers.

Squad:

Men: Xiao Qin, Feng Jing, Liang Fuliang, Li Dezhi, Lu Bin.

Women: Zhang Nan, Kang Xin, Fan Ye, Wang Tiantian, Chen Miaojie.
