A unique memorial to Chinese journalism, which was set up recently, has begun to display exhibits in Yan'an of northwestern Shaanxi province.

The four-story memorial house was built with investment from the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily and the National Bureau of Radio and Television Industry.

The location of the memorial, the historic Qingliang hill, once called "journalism hill", is where Xinhua News Agency, Jiefang (Liberation) Daily, Xinhua Broadcasting Station, Central Printing House and Xinhua Bookstore stood in wartime in the city and an important site for the headquarters of the CPC central committee to release news to the outside at that time.

A journalism memorial was first set up near the original site of the Xinhua News Agency in the 1980s but was buried by landslide later.

The new building has been reconstructed since August last year to mainly display the journalism history of the Chinese revolution, cultural relics related to journalism and documents of major historical incidents.

The local bureau of cultural relics has appealed to society at large to help collect journalism relics.
