Nearly half of draft-age youngsters are found unqualified to be soldiers in their physical examination, according to information simultaneously released by several health checkup stations for conscription in Yangzhou city of eastern China's Jiangsu province.

A young employee of a company in the city, surnamed Zhang, regretted that his dream of joining the army was shattered by his constant drinking and staying up all night in the karaoke lounge.

Such situations also appeared in many other Chinese cities, such as Nanjing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Fuzhou, Hefei and Nanchang.

In the largest industrial and business center of Shanghai, many youngsters' eyesight was found to be too poor in the examination though their education level was high.

Dozens of youngsters, living in Gulou District of Fuzhou, capital city of east China's Fujian province, were also rejected by the recruiters for their failure to pass the psychological test.

Experts blamed unhealthy lifestyles as the main reason leading to their unqualified body conditions.

Excessive drinking and entertainment can cause unbearable burden for the kidneys and possibly make them suffer from albuminuria eventually, they said.
