n President Alvaro Uribe accepted the resignation of armed forces commander General Jorge Mora on Wednesday.
This followed the resignation of three ministers and five police generals. Mora's resignation will be effective as of Nov. 20.
"I believe I complied with my duty," Mora told a press conference.
Mora had been appointed as the joint chief of staff by Uribe after the president took office in August 2002. Between 1998 and 2002 Mora had been the commander-in-chief of the army.
It has not been announced yet who will replace Mora, although his departure will make it necessary to restructure the high military command.
The cabinet was plunged into a crisis last month, when Colombians failed to back Uribe's economic and political reform package in a national referendum.
All the cabinet members submitted their resignations on Oct. 29,so that the president could make a reshuffle to iron out the crisis.
Uribe accepted the resignation of Defense Minister Martha LuciaRamirez on Sunday and of Interior and Justice Minister Fernando Londono last Thursday.
On Oct. 25, Colombia held a national referendum on economic contraction, aimed at preventing corruption in government institutes, cutting the size of congress and reducing salaries andpensions of congressmen and officials.
