Former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger said Friday the present US-China relations are in the "most constructive period" in 30 years, and the two countries have broad prospects for future cooperation.

The fundamental interests of the United States and China are parallel, and US-China relations are of great importance to world peace and prosperity, Kissinger said in a speech entitled "US diplomatic strategies and US-China relations" at a gathering of over 200 Chinese military and defense and security experts, scholars and researchers.

Kissinger also contributed his ideas on the Korean nuclear issue, the fight against terrorism and the Taiwan issue.

Prior to the gathering, Kissinger participated in a seminar and exchanged views with Chinese military officials on international security.
