Chinese young divers start winter training camps

Unlike previous years, the annual winter program for Chinese young divers has started in four places nationwide for the first time on Saturday.

Unlike previous years, the annual winter program for Chinese young divers has started in four places nationwide for the first time on Saturday.

The winter program for young talents, were usually held at the national team training center in Beijing together with the top-level divers, including Olympic Games champion Tian Liang and world champion Guo Jingjing.

However, the in-door diving pool for the national team in Beijing has been renovated since last year and yet to completed. The first-string squad had to train in Jinan, Shandong province for more than 10 months and now stay in Tianjin, about 100 kilometers away from the capital city.

Li Jun, diving official from the Chinese Swimming Association (CSA), said that the winter program for young divers this year has to be divided into four cities spread in China in Baoding, Chengdu,Nanjing and Shantou.

"There are more than 200 divers and coaches attend the winter program this time, running from Nov.15 to Dec.20. We hope they can improve their techniques through the training camps," Li said.

According to Li, the young divers, ranging from 10-15 years old,are the hopefuls for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
