China is expected to see sales of 1,820 billion yuan in information technology products in 2003, up 30 percent over last year.
An official with the
Ministry of Information Industry
attributed the growth to fine economic development, preferential policies and increased foreign investment.
Zhou Zixue, director in charge of the economic structure reformand economic operation department under the ministry, said China'soverall economy was still developing rapidly despite the setback from the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak in the first half of the year.
Value added output of the industry would reach 370 billion yuanthis year, up 30 percent over 2002, while exports would hit 120 billion US dollars, up 30.4 percent, predicted Zhou.
Foreign investors were still enthusiastic about investing in China's major information industry bases, like the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and the Bohai Sea Rim, said Zhou. As well as establishing manufacturing base, they also set up researchand development centers and improved cooperation with universitiesand research institutes.
The rapid development of telecommunications also supported the sales of information products, Zhou said.
