US, China agree to start 6-pary talks as soon as possible

Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Wang Yi Thursday exchanged views with visiting US Assistant Secretary of State, James Kelly, on the second round of six-party talks. The two officials agreed that active preparations for the talks should be made, and that the meeting should be brought forward.

Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Wang Yi Thursday exchanged views with visiting US Assistant Secretary of State, James Kelly, on the second round of six-party talks. The two officials agreed that active preparations for the talks should be made, and that the meeting should be brought forward.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao said this at a press conference Thursday in Beijing.

Liu Jinchao said Kelly came to China to make preparations for the second round of six-party talks. During the meeting Wang Yi noted the six parties should be more flexible and increase the trust among them, and make continuous efforts for further negotiations. Kelly introduced his views on China's proposals on the second round of talks and also the US stance on the North Korea nuclear issue.

The two sides said this meeting was productive and active, and agreed to continue the contact.

China urges Israel, Palestine to make active moves for peace negotiation
China on Thursday urged Israel and Palestine to make active moves to cooperate with the international community to achieve progress in peace negotiation.

Currently there were some signs of ease in Israel-Palestine situation, and the leaders of the two sides had expressed on many occasions their willingness to resume the dialogue, Liu said.

Liu said the United Nations Security Council adopted on Wednesday a resolution expressing its support for the "road map" peace plan for the Middle East and Israeli and Palestinian peace activists had also reached an unofficial Geneva Accords peace plan.

Liu said China welcomes all the moves, which would have positive effects to the peace and reconciliation process between Israel and Palestine.

CPPCC chairman's upcoming 5-nation tour
Liu Jianchao said that Jia Qinglin's upcoming visit to the five countries of south Asia will further promote China's relations with them.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), will pay an official goodwill visit to India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistanfrom Nov. 23 to Dec. 7, according to the spokesman.

China has always attached great importance to cooperation with its neighboring countries in south Asia based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and Jia's upcoming tour was a very important visit, Liu said.
