Valve producing joint venture opens in Shanghai

Asco Valve Inc, the world's leading solenoid valve designer and manufacturer, opened a new plant in Shanghai yesterday.

Asco Valve Inc, the world's leading solenoid valve designer and manufacturer, opened a new plant in Shanghai yesterday.

The joint venture, ASCO Valve (Shanghai) Co, is to produce solenoid valves and provide after-sales service for the Chinese market.

The valves are used in machine tools to control the supply of gas and coolants.

ASCO Valve Inc, the industrial automation division of Emerson, invested more than US$700,000 in the 7,000-square-meter plant in Songjiang District.

ASCO also hopes the venture can establish a self-controlled logistics system in China, because all of ASCO's products are currently sold through Emerson's distribution network before.

Employing more than 16,000 people, the factory is ASCO's forth plant in the Asia-Pacific region.

Emerson now has more than 30 enterprises around China. Its total investment in China has reached US$1 billion.

ASCO had already established seven sales offices in China, according to Trevor Vindin, vice president of ASCO Asia Pacific region.

The company entered China in 1994 by setting up its first sales office and a warehouse in Shanghai.
