"We welcome China's rapid economic growth from which France may obtain many opportunities for seeking growth," said Francois Loos, French minister delegate for foreign trade in an interview with Xinhua on Friday.

He is here to attend the one-day "China World, Moving Forward" forum sponsored by French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Hong Kong and two other French organizations.

He said the fast growth of China's economy and the signing of Chinese Mainland/Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement(CEPA) offer new impetus and good opportunities for strengthening Sino-French trade and economic cooperation.

Loos added that France hopes to seize every major chance for development amid globalization of the world economy.

He expected to further promote Sino-French cooperation on nuclear power plant building and expand the French car share in China's market.

On the to-be-built Beijing-Shanghai express railway, Loos said France is interested in the project to absorb huge sum of investment and will compete with other countries in winning the bid for the railway building.

As for the 2008 Olympic Games to be hosted by Beijing, Loos said a number of French sports companies have joined hands in seeking business opportunities in Beijing.

He emphasized that other countries should recognize that China is not only a major exporter, but also a major importer. In the first half of this year, China's import volume reported a 44.5 percent growth over the same period of last year.

On cooperation between France and Hong Kong, Loos said Hong Kong has been the best bridge linking up the Chinese mainland with other countries and regions.

He was pleased to know that since the CEPA was signed at the end of June, over 20 French companies have settled in Hong Kong, most of which trade companies. So far, the total number of French companies in Hong Kong has reached 470.

Not only luxury goods take a considerable market share in Hong Kong, France's electronic and telecommunications companies also claim a growing share in Hong Kong market.

Loos believed that China would maintain a stable economic growth for a long period, which is set to bring more opportunities to other countries and regions.
