Hamas rejects truce under current circumstances

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) asserted on Saturday that any Hudna, or truce reached under the current circumstances would serve as a cover to Israeli crimes. Hamas representative Adnan Asfour told reporters that the Hamas movement doesn't want to reach a Hudna with Israel similar to the previous one that faltered only six weeks after its announcement.

The movement's representatives have presented an initiative that would spare civilians from both sides as a way to assert our commitment to resistance and not blood shed, Asfour said.

He said that his movement is ready to study and consider any proposal that could end the conflict saying alleviating Palestinians' sufferings and regaining their rights has been the main motives behind this initiative.

Asfour, however, insisted on considering the motives of the Hudna, saying the Hudna was considered when Israel realized that it failed by imposing its military solutions and that it was impossible to end the Intifada (uprising).

The representative noted that the meeting between his movement and the Egyptian delegation tackled suggestions about a fresh Hudna and how to take advantage of the Israeli crisis to announce an Egyptian sponsored Hudna that would force Israel to commit to its obligations.

A truce could never have any success unless achieved under circumstances such as the announcement of a communal and national position, adding the truce should be limited in a period of time to guarantee Israel's commitment to its terms, he said.
