Senior official pays visit to 100-year-old renowned writer

Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Tuesday visited Ba Jin in hospital to congratulate the great Chinese writer on his 100th birthday.

Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Tuesday visited Ba Jin in hospital to congratulate the great Chinese writer on his 100th birthday.

Ba Jin is one of the founders of modern Chinese literature and is known for his prolific works and masterpieces like the trilogy "Family", "Spring" and "Autumn", which inspired the fight against imperialism and feudalism and endeavor for a new society.

Also a famous translator, Ba Jin has introduced a large number of foreign literary works into China. He worked as editor-in-chief for many famous literary periodicals, which helped bring up a large number of young writers.

Just like his works, Ba Jin's personal integrity has also been deeply respected by people, and he is an excellent model for Chinese writers, Li said.

The Chinese State Council awarded Ba Jin the title of "People's Writer" and Li Changchun delivered the certificate to him.

Li encouraged Chinese writers to inherit Ba Jin's spirit and bring about more excellent works to well serve the people.

Ba Jin is vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of the Chinese Writers Association.

In Li's company, Chen Liangyu, secretary of Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPC, as well as other senior officials, visited Ba Jin.
