Top leaders have lecture on history of world development

The members of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Tuesday had a lecture on the history of development of the world's major powers given by Prof. Qi Shirong of Capital Normal University and Prof. Qian Chengdan of Nanjing University.

The lecture, the ninth of its kind for the senior Party officials, focused on the development of the major powers since the 15th century. The participants had a discussion on the issue afterwards.

General Secretary Hu Jintao of the CPC Central Committee, who presided over the lectures, urged senior Party officials to give priority to the study of history in the new era and cultivate a global vision.

"We should be good at further recognizing and grasping the laws of historic development and social progress by learning from the experiences of foreign nations, as well as from China's own successes and failures," he said.

China's history, the history of the Chinese Revolution in particular, should be used to educate Party officials and the people, Hu said. While strengthening the study of Marxist theories and practical issues, leading Party officials should step up their study of history, he noted.

Hu called for constantly enhancing awareness of the law in a country where the CPC is in power, the role of law in the course of socialist construction, and the law in the development of human society. The valuable experience of China's

Hu pointed out that both the history of China and those of other countries show that the success of a nation depends on its capability to grasp opportunities to accelerate its development.
